Lexey Swall (b. 1977) is an American photographer who grew up in Bakersfield, Calif., an oil and agriculture town at the bottom of the San Joaquin Valley known for country music and dust storms.

Lexey studied photojournalism and women’s studies at San Jose State University, graduating in 2002. She received an Associate of Arts degree in journalism from Bakersfield College in 1999.

After college, Lexey worked for nearly 10 years as a photojournalist at the Naples (Fla.) Daily News.

Lexey co-founded GRAIN, a photography collective focused on visual storytelling, in 2012 with her husband Greg Kahn and colleague Tristan Spinski. She now lives in Washington, D.C. with Greg and their cats, Kodak and Bear.
